February 11 - 17 was National Random Acts of Kindness Week -
But it's never too late to show kindness!
For many of Richmond's children who have been exposed to violence and abuse, it is the start of their nightmare and the end of their childhood. Atop Church Hill, in the old WRVA building, we have unsung heroes who devote their lives to helping children overcome trauma.
Show a random act of kindness by helping a child get the services he or she needs. Please give what you can by making an online donation.

New Program Names; Same Great Services
ChildSavers is pleased to announce that as of autumn 2007, our three primary program areas will henceforth be known by new and more descriptive names:
- Our Clinical Services Department is now the Guidance Clinic;
- Our Education & Training Department is now Child Development Services; and
- Our ChildSAVE program is now Trauma Response.
Please note that our website will be modified to reflect these changes during the coming weeks. As always, the ChildSavers staff is dedicated to providing top-quality child development and mental health services for Central Virginia's children and their families and caregivers.

Phase I Completed; Phase II Underway!
Our building renovation project has reached the halfway point. Phase I, which involved renovation of the lower level and repair/replacement of the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, was completed in September 2007. Once the entire project has been completed, this level of the building will be home to our Child Development Services staff.
The photos below show the new Child Care Training Center and Training Kitchen. These facilities will enable our CDS staff to provide hands-on workshops for child care providers in years to come.

Phase II, now underway, involves renovation of the upper (22nd Street) level of the building, which upon completion will house our Guidance Clinic, Trauma Response, and administrative staff members.
We are very grateful for the financial support of more than 300 corporate, foundation, and individual donors. Without their support, the creation of a state-of-the-art child development and mental health center would be an unfulfilled dream instead of an imminent reality.

ChildSavers Volunteer is Author of The Eleventh Summer

Sarah “Sally” Norkus, a volunteer with ChildSavers, has recently had her book The Eleventh Summer published. Sally’s book is the autobiographical account of how love and faith carried her through a season of tragedy. The accounts of Sally’s coping mechanisms as a child in an impossible situation offer hope to others who battle difficult conditions in their own lives.
She has written this book “for the eleven million children in this country who live lives of secret desperation with an alcoholic parent.”
Sally is generously donating a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of her book to ChildSavers. We congratulate Sally and thank her for ongoing support!
